Supreme Court Explains Bail Orders Should Cite Specific Reasons for Being Granted or Refused - 06.12.2019

Supreme Court has noted that Courts should give specific reasons while granting or denying bail as the issue concerns both the liberty of the Accused and ensuring that the offender does not obstruct the delivery of justice. The Court said that open justice is premised on the notion that it should not only be done, but should “manifestly and undoubtedly” be seen to be done and the duty of judges to give reasoned decisions lies at the heart of this commitment.

ITAT Delhi: Section 36(1)(vii) Applicable in Inability or Insolvency Cases - 05.12.2019

Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Delhi has held that an Assessee is entitled to claim under Section 36(1)(vii) of the Income Tax Act where the money is unable to be recovered due to inability or insolvency of the debtor to pay. In all other cases, the claim for allowance should have to be sustained under Section 37(1).

SAT Declines Relief to Lenders in Karvy Case - 05.12.2019

Securities Appellate Tribunal has refused to give any further relief to HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance and Indusind Bank in Karvy Broking share pledge case. The Tribunal asked these companies to approach Securities and Exchange Board of India by December 6 with their pleas. Further it directed the markets regulator to pass an order in the matter by December 12.

Parliament Passes Bill to Give Ownership Rights to Residents of Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi - 05.12.2019

Parliament has passed a bill to grant ownership rights to residents living in 1,731 unauthorised colonies in Delhi. The National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill, 2019 was passed by a voice vote in Rajya Sabha. It was already passed in Lok Sabha on November 28.
