Central government has notified the Copyright (Amendment) Rules, 2021 which amends the Copyright Rules, 2013. The amendments have been introduced with the objective of bringing accountability and transparency, and making the existing rules in parity with other relevant laws.

SC Allows Impleadment of UP, Haryana in Plea of Noida Resident Alleging Issues in Commutation - 09.04.2021

SC: Pending Criminal Cases Against Italian Marines to be Closed Only After Compensation Paid - 09.04.2021

Orissa HC: Lawyers Exempted from Paying GST/Service Tax, Demand Notices Not to be Issued - 09.04.2021

CBDT Issues Approval for Notifying CIT(A) to Exercise Jurisdiction Post Faceless Appeal Scheme - 09.04.2021

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued the approval for notifying Commissioners of Income-tax (Appeals) to exercise jurisdiction over appeals in cases pertaining to Direct Taxes or Direct Tax Acts other than Income-tax Act, 1961 post Faceless Appeal Scheme, 2020. The Board has granted the approval for notifying 19 Commissioners of Income-tax (Appeals) to exercise jurisdiction, which shall be deemed to have come into force on 25th September 2020 or on the date of creation of post.

Madras HC Terms State Decision to Cancel Arrear Examinations as ‘Completely Unacceptable’ - 08.04.2021

Madras High Court has termed as “completely unacceptable” a decision taken by the State government in August, 2020 to cancel the arrear examinations of all arts and science, engineering and MCA students, except those pursuing final year or final semester of their course, by citing the spread of COVID-19 and letting them clear the arrear papers solely on the basis of internal assessment and their past performance.

SEBI Imposes Penalty on Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani & Family for Irregularities in RIL Shareholding - 08.04.2021

Securities and Exchange Board of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 25 Crores on prominent members of the Reliance family Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Nita Ambani, Tina Ambani and few other individuals. The penalty has been imposed for violations of the provisions of Regulation 11(1) of the SEBI (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers) Regulations, 2011 over irregularities relating to the issue of 12 crore equity shares in January, 2000.

Delhi High Court Holds Wearing of Mask Compulsory Even While Alone in Vehicle - 07.04.2021

Delhi High Court has dismissed writ petitions challenging the imposition of fines by the Delhi government on persons not wearing masks while travelling alone in personal vehicles. The Court has said that the mask is like a "suraksha kavach" protecting both the person wearing it and those around, making wearing of masks compulsory even while alone in vehicle.

Delhi HC: Private Doctors Submitting Sketchy Medical Reports Guilty of Fabricating False Evidence - 06.04.2021

Delhi High Court has observed that any sketchy, wishy-washy medical documents from any random private doctor having ambiguous and incomplete documentation in illegible handwriting will not be entertained by the Court and in the event of submitting such sketchy medical reports, must be guilty of an offence under section 192 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 providing for "fabricating false evidence".

CBIC Amends Notification Prescribing Effective Rate of Duty on Goods - 05.04.2021

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has amended the notification which seeks to prescribe effective rate of duty on goods consequent to enactment of Finance Act, 2021. The Board has notified that for Petroleum crude the standard rate of duty will be Re 1 per tonne and in case of all goods the standard rate will be nil. The notification shall come into force on the 1st April, 2021.
