CBDT Issues Approval for Notifying CIT(A) to Exercise Jurisdiction Post Faceless Appeal Scheme - 09.04.2021
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued the approval for notifying Commissioners of Income-tax (Appeals) to exercise jurisdiction over appeals in cases pertaining to Direct Taxes or Direct Tax Acts other than Income-tax Act, 1961 post Faceless Appeal Scheme, 2020. The Board has granted the approval for notifying 19 Commissioners of Income-tax (Appeals) to exercise jurisdiction, which shall be deemed to have come into force on 25th September 2020 or on the date of creation of post.

Orissa HC: Lawyers Exempted from Paying GST/Service Tax, Demand Notices Not to be Issued - 09.04.2021
Orissa High Court has directed the Commissioner, Goods and Services Tax to issue clear instructions to all the officers in the GST Commission rates in the state not to issue any notice demanding payment of service tax/GST to practising lawyers as they are exempted from paying GST/Service Tax.

SC: HC Should Be Extremely Circumspect in Interfering With Orders Passed Under Arbitration Act - 09.04.2021
Supreme Court has reiterated that a High Court while exercising jurisdiction under Article 226 and 227 of the Constitution of India, 1949 should be extremely circumspect in interfering with orders passed under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996.

SC: Pending Criminal Cases Against Italian Marines to be Closed Only After Compensation Paid - 09.04.2021
Supreme Court has observed that the criminal cases pending in India against the two Italian Marines in the Enrica Lexie case will be closed only after the Republic of Italy deposits the compensation agreed to be paid to the victims of sea firing incident of 2012.

SEBI Imposes Penalty on Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani & Family for Irregularities in RIL Shareholding - 08.04.2021
Securities and Exchange Board of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 25 Crores on prominent members of the Reliance family Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Nita Ambani, Tina Ambani and few other individuals. The penalty has been imposed for violations of the provisions of Regulation 11(1) of the SEBI (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers) Regulations, 2011 over irregularities relating to the issue of 12 crore equity shares in January, 2000.

Madras HC Terms State Decision to Cancel Arrear Examinations as ‘Completely Unacceptable’ - 08.04.2021
Madras High Court has termed as “completely unacceptable” a decision taken by the State government in August, 2020 to cancel the arrear examinations of all arts and science, engineering and MCA students, except those pursuing final year or final semester of their course, by citing the spread of COVID-19 and letting them clear the arrear papers solely on the basis of internal assessment and their past performance.
