Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the deadline up to December 31 for the Income-Tax department to complete the final assessment of about 87,000 entities that made suspicious deposits post-demonetisation.

Supreme Court: Female Descendant Cannot be Mutawalli if Wakif Intended to Eliminate Them - 27.09.2019

Supreme Court has noted that though woman can also hold the office of Mutawalli under Mohammedan law however if the Wakif intended to create the Mutawalliship only in favour of male descendants, a female descendant cannot stake claim to the Mutawalliship of the Wakf estate.

Supreme Court: Rs. 25 Lakh Compensation for Illegal Kochi Flat Owners for Now - 27.09.2019

Supreme Court has noted that the owners of 343 flats in four illegally constructed high-end buildings in Kochi that have been scheduled for demolition must be paid ad hoc compensation of Rs. 25 lakh within 4 weeks. The Court said the demolition had to be completed within 138 days, in accordance with the schedule provided by the State. Further the Court also ordered State Government to pay the compensation and recover the cost from the builder.

Telangana High Court Pulls Up State Government for Failing to Control Dengue Crisis - 27.09.2019

KHC: Person Arrested Authorized to Move for Bail Though he was not Produced Before Magistrate - 26.09.2019

Karnataka High Court(KHC) has directed a Magistrate to entertain a bail plea and pass appropriate orders as per law. The Court observed that it goes without saying that if a person was arrested and not produced before the Jurisdictional Court he was entitled to maintain a petition under Section 437 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 before the Magistrate.

Delhi High Court: CBI can be Asked to Provide Crime File Only in Exceptional Circumstances - 26.09.2019

Delhi High Court has clarified that the Central Bureau of Investigation was not required to furnish Final Report-Part 1 unless the facts warrant exceptional circumstances. The Court noted that access to the Report could not be made in ordinary course as it was an internal document of the said investigation agency.
