SEBI Levies Rs 62 Lakh Fine on Seven Entities for Violating Takeover Norms - 25.10.2019

Securities and Exchange Board of India has levied a total penalty of Rs 62 lakh on seven entities for failing to make public announcement with regard to acquisition of Parichay Investments Ltd shares. The entities have violated Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers norms.

NGT Explains Abandoned Mines Cannot be Used for Dumping Waste - 25.10.2019

National Green Tribunal has refused a plea moved by the three civic bodies seeking direction to allow the use of Bhatti Mines for dumping of garbage. The Court observed that abandoned mines need to be closed and cannot be allowed to be used for dumping of any material.

Supreme Court: All Kochi Flat Owners to Get Uniform Interim Compensation - 25.10.2019

Supreme Court has observed that all the owners of 343 flats in four illegally constructed high-end buildings in Kochi that have been scheduled for demolition will get a uniform interim compensation of Rs. 25 lakh. The order comes after a one-member panel, which is overseeing the compensation and demolition in the case, recommended payment of less than Rs. 25 lakh for certain flat owners depending on the size of a flat and Court was told that some of the flat owners were given a lesser amount.

McDonald’s Case: NCLAT Directs Vikram Bakshi to Deposit Rs 5 Cr for Permission to Travel Abroad - 24.10.2019

National Company Law Appellate Tribunal has directed Vikram Bakshi, the estranged partner of McDonald’s, to deposit Rs 5 crore as security deposit for permission to travel abroad. The Court asked Bakshi and his wife Madhurima Bakshi to deposit Rs 5 crore each for permission to travel overseas.

Madhya Pradesh HC Issues Notice to State Govt Over Plea Against Exemption of Women from Helmet - 24.10.2019

Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to the State Government on Wednesday on a Public Interest Litigation filed by a law university student, challenging a rule that exempts women from wearing a helmet. The Petitioner who was appearing in person states in his petition that the exemption exposes women to danger.
