PM Inaugurated Integrated Case Management System Of Supreme Court

The Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated the integrated case management system of the Supreme Court in presence of the Chief Justice of India and other judges of Supreme Court and Law Minister. Chief Justice of India proposes to integrate the system with all 24 high Courts and subordinate Courts across the country. With introduction of integrated case management system, Litigants as well as lawyers will be able access progress of case on real time basis and will promote more transparency. It will also help litigants coming from all over India to access data and retrieve information online. Indeed, it is a major step towards complete paperless work in Supreme Court and will completely change working style in Supreme Court.

One of the most interesting aspect of integrated case management system as told by Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar is that, if one is filing an appeal in the Supreme Court from a case in High Court, all he need to do is to put in number of the case, he is filing and he has to file grounds and when grounds are filed, entire paper book of concerned High Court gets transferred to the Supreme Court and thereby replacing the paperwork of Supreme Court by grounds of appeal. As of now, while filing appeals and petitions before Supreme Court, huge voluminous papers comprising record of lower Courts are being filed and involves a tedious exercise of scrutinizing those records. After introduction of said system, it will reduce such exercises of sorting out paper records and such records will be available at click of mouse and thus, help in a greater way of reducing wastage of paper and brings more clarity and transparency.

The Chief justice also added that, if any party who wants to add any additional documents, he may move an Interim Application and file documents and also if he wants to have a part of pleadings translated, he can move another Interim Application and translate that part of pleading and thus, process remains same and rule remains the same. Another interesting aspect is that, party as well as lawyers can now calculate exact amount of Court fee required to be paid for a particular case and will also be able to calculate exact period of delay and all this will be provided on website of Supreme Court in facilitating seamless filing of cases before Supreme Court. From now on, every Central and State government department will know, if they have been made party to case and will assist departments in pursuing their cases.

This will be a major breakthrough and a major leap in Indian judiciary towards technological advancement and bringing about greater transparency in working of Courts and will be greatly beneficial towards litigants of country.
