4604 DDG Projects Sanctioned for Covering 4745 Villages and Hamlets


Ministry of Power is implementing Decentralized Distributed Generation (DDG) under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) through Rural Electrification Corporation to provide access to electricity to un-electrified villages/habitations where grid connectivity is either not feasible or not cost effective. As on date, 4604 DDG projects for a total project cost of Rs.1470.64 crore have been sanctioned covering 4745 villages/hamlets (3,586 UEVs) in various States across the country. This was stated by Shri Piyush Goyal Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
The Minister further stated that DDG can be from conventional or renewable sources such as biomass, biofuels, biogas, Mini hydro, solar etc. DDG scheme provides a subsidy towards 60% (85 % for special category states) of the project cost. However, an additional subsidy of 15% (5 % for special category states) is applicable subject to timely completion of DDG projects, the Minister added.
