LS passes common medical and dental entrance examination Bills

The Lok Sabha passed the Dentists (Amendment) Bill 2016 and the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill 2016 for conducting national uniform entrance examinations to admit students to medical educational institutions at the undergraduate and post graduate level.

The common entrance tests for medical and dental education will replace the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The new system will bring within its ambit not only government colleges, but private institutions as well.

The proposed replacement national examinations will be held for academic year 2017-2018 onwards.
