Cabinet approves Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2016

The Union Cabinet approved the introduction of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2016 in Parliament.

The Bill envisages mechanisms for social, economic and educational empowerment of transgender persons in the country. It is hoped that progressive steps will reduce incidences of discrimination and trauma faced by an extremely marginalised community.
