SC: Trial Courts Must Record that Free Legal Aid was Offered to Accused Before Witness Examination - 06.02.2026

Supreme Court issued a significant direction to High Courts to instruct trial courts to inform accused persons of their right to free legal aid if they cannot afford a lawyer, and to formally record the accused’s response to such an offer.
