SC Doubts Kerala HC Ruling: Cheque Dishonour Not for Illegal Debts Under S.138 NI Act - 25.08.2025

Supreme Court prima facie held that cheque dishonour cases under Section 138 of NI Act, 1881 can’t be based on debts from illegal or unenforceable promises. The Court further questioned Kerala High Court’s 2015 view that even illegal consideration could attract liability.
