Cleanup begins after KPSC “deceit”

Karnataka High Court held the procedure followed by Karnataka Public Service Commission in preparing the list of candidates admitted to the written examination and called for personality test in 1998, 1999 and 2004 unconstitutional and contrary to rules laid down.

Though the court refrained from setting aside the entire batch for the relevant years, it noted that tainted and ineligible candidates could be identified, and their appointment voided upon completion of a scrutinising process.

Justice Kumar was unambiguous in his pragmatic appraisal of the episode: “highly placed men holding responsible posts in the administration, betraying the confidence reposed in them by the public of Karnataka … how fraud, illegality, irregularity, deceit, is practiced to manipulate the results of the examination, and some of the selected candidates even before they are born in the cadre”.
