Model Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2016

The Union Cabinet looked into disseminating the Model Shops and Establishment (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2016 to States. To what extent, if at all, provisions of the Bill will be enacted depends on individual State governments and Union Territories.

Salient features of the draft Model Bill include: year-round and 24/7 operation of establishments; preventing discrimination against women in recruitment, training and promotions; simplified registration; mandated holidays, and; provision for government to make rules ensuring safety and health of workers.
