SC: Scope of Preliminary Inquiry Limits to Situation Where Info. Doesn’t Disclose Cognizable Offence - 19.03.2025

SC has observed that scope of a preliminary inquiry is limited to situations where information received doesn’t disclose a cognizable offence but requires verification. However, in cases where information discloses a cognizable offence, police can’t conduct a prelim. inquiry before registering FIR.
