Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench while hearing the matter whether courts have power to modify arbitral award under Section 34 and 37 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, has noted that giving rigid interpretation to the sections may end up overlooking the Act’s practical purpose.
