Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill 2013 shelved

The Union Cabinet approved withdrawal of the Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill 2013 from the Rajya Sabha.

Having been sent for examination, the Parliamentary Standing Committee recommended a plethora of changes to the Bill in light of rapid development in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The government will now rework the Bill comprehensively to encompass recent advances in research and development, and promoting a higher quality of products.

The Bill was tabled in Parliament on 29 August 2013, shortly after which it was referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare.

Clinical trials registered with CTRI (approximates). Over 1000 trials registered in 2014 and 2015.
