Ker. HC: In a Live-in Relationship, Woman’s Partner Can’t be Prosecuted u/s 498A of IPC - 11.07.2024

Ker. HC has held that to attract an offence punishable u/s 498(A) of IPC, essential ingredient is to subject a woman to cruelty by her husband or relatives of husband. Thus, without legal marriage, if a man becomes a woman's partner, he will not be covered by the term husband for S. 498(A) of IPC.
