13 communities to be added to Scheduled Tribes list

The Union Cabinet approved introduction of bills bringing amendments to the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order 1950 to include several new communities under the Scheduled Tribe classification.

The communities are located in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and Puducherry.

Inclusion as a Scheduled Tribe brings various benefits to community members including educational admissions and scholarships, employment opportunities and financial disbursements.
