Licensing and Formats for GM Technology Agreement Guidelines, 2016

The Central government introduced the Licensing and Formats for GM Technology Guidelines 2016 in efforts to increase access to GM traits for all seed companies.

The Guidelines hope to preserve a balance between a fair, reasonable and non-discriminative mechanism for rewarding development of biotechnology while removing non-availability of GM traits as a stumbling block in the agricultural sector.

Emphasis particularly is on increasing competitiveness in the cotton seed market, and ensuring supply to cotton farmers at uniform, affordable prices.
