Dollar linked coastal tariff put in abeyance

The Ministry of Shipping has put on hold instructions requiring coastal vessels take into account exchange rate fluctuations between the rupee and the dollar. The instruction had been issued to enable limited parity between coastal charges for different vessels.

However, the Traffic Authority for Major Ports observed vessel and container rates increasing dramatically, as compared to pre-revised rates, after the policy came into effect.
