Technical Committee Report on Large Scale Integration of Renewable Energy

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy released a report on ‘Large Scale Integration of Renewable Energy, Need for Balancing, Deviation Settlement Mechanism’. Broadly, the report discusses an Action Plan to integrate on a large scale renewable energy sources with a power grid that still relies heavily on traditional sources such as gas and coal. It addresses concerns about the quality of power and the inherent deviation in electricity generation that accompanies most renewable sources. Dispute resolution, a crucial issue, has also been discussed in the report.

The Technical Committee responsible for the report comprised members from the Power Ministry, state authorities and representation from private power generators and other firms. It was tasked with integrating renewable generating capacity with the network and also to address stakeholder concerns.
