Banks now able to authorise establishment of branch office of foreign entities

The Reserve Bank of India has empowered AD Cat-I Banks to grant approvals for establishment of Branch Offices, Liaison Offices and Projects Offices in India by foreign entities. Certain off-limits sectors such as Defence and entities from a few excepted countries still require RBI approval for the same. No other changes have been made to FEMA regulations pertaining to establishment of branch or other offices.
