NULM becomes bigger in scope – and name

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation enhanced the scope of the National Urban Livelihoods Mission, and renamed it the ‘Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission’. Aimed at providing employment opportunities for the poor in urban areas, the scheme calls for setting up ‘City Livelihood Centres’, commensurate to city-wise capacity and need. With the latest amendments included are more low population towns, and provision for dwellings that don’t meet population thresholds for setting up a centre to receive support from neighbouring centres.
