Karnataka HC: Award of Compensation under National Highways Act Not Attract Stamp Duty - 30.05.2022

Karnataka High Court has held that an award of compensation passed by an Arbitrator under National Highways Act, 1956 does not attract stamp duty. Payment of stamp duty on the arbitral award is an additional burden on the land owner to obtain compensation in lieu of the land acquired.
