Regional Centre for Biotechnology Bill, 2016

The Regional Centre for Biotechnology Bill 2016 was introduced in the Lok Sabha earlier this month. The Bill seeks to harness India’s position in the biotechnology field by inculcating better educational standards and encouraging research in the field. It proposes setting up the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, an institute to provide instructional and research facilities and aid policy development. The Centre will be set up and operated primarily out of funding allocated by the central government.
