A divided legislature, now a divided court

“The judgment is affirmed by an equally divided Court”, screams the blankly white sheet of paper announcing the United States Supreme Court’s decision in the matter. Justice Antonin Scalia’s death was expected to highlight the partisanship associated with American politics, but too soon it has stumbled the United States Supreme Court. With eight justices at present, the highest court’s political leanings are divided equally between Democrat and Republican supported justices. With President Barack Obama’s authority largely neutered by a rakish Senate, it is nearly inevitable that the ninth justice will have to wait till the outcome of the fast-approaching Presidential election in the country.
