New environment standards for gensets

The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change notified new environment standards for fossil-fuel generators being used in various towns and cities in India. The new standards aim to curb noise and air pollution exhausted from the operation of such ‘gensets’. The standards, recommended by the Central Pollution Control Board, adopt a three-tier classification and mandate certification of generators by manufacturers for ‘Type approval’ and ‘Conformity of Production’ for air and noise emissions. In July 2015, the Ministry had made public draft Standards for the same.
