Supreme Court: Bail Condition to Compensate Victims Cannot be Imposed - 13.07.2021

Supreme Court has observed that a condition for payment of compensation to victims cannot be imposed at the stage of bail. The Court has approved that under Section 357 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, compensation can only arise after the conclusion of trial and without a full-fledged trial there cannot be a sentence and, thus, there cannot be any such compensation.
