Withdrawal of old series banknotes issued prior to 2005 deferred

The Reserve Bank of India extended the deadline for exchanging pre-2005 banknotes to 30 June, 2016. Exchange on banknotes in 2016 will only be done at certain bank branches. Separate facility for the same will have to be provided, as exchange cannot be facilitated at ATMs or over the counter. The date facilitating exchange of old banknotes has now been postponed by over one and half years since it was first introduced.
