Madras HC: Sitting on Hunger Strike Would Not Amount to Attempt to Commit Suicide - 19.02.2021

Madras High Court has stated that sitting on a hunger strike for days together to press certain demands and refusing to cooperate with the authorities in the provision of medical treatment will not amount to a criminal offence under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
