SOPs to not scare away the Good Samaritan

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified Standard Operating Procedures for the examination of Good Samaritans by the police. The instructions are aimed at reducing harassment of persons who assist an injured person or a person in distress on the road. Protections purported include not compelling Good Samaritans from disclosing their identity, and leaving with them prerogative join or avoid becoming witness in investigative and legal proceedings. Even with further involvement of a Good Samaritan with investigative proceedings, examination would be conducted at their convenience and without causing stigma.
