Programmes for skill development and provision of apprenticeships

To provide skill training on a large scale, the government has introduced the 'Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana' and 'Apprentice Protsahan Yojana' at an outlay of over Rs.1,500 crores. The Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship stated that of a workforce of an estimated 487 million people, only 4.69 per cent possessed formal vocational education. A further 104.6 million people are expected to enter the workforce between 2015 and 2022.
