TRAI conducted Webinar on-"IoT-Trends, Security Challenges and Solutions"

1. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), conducted a webinar on "IoT-Trends, Security Challenges and Solutions" through its Regional office, Bhopal on 28th August' 2020 via online platform.

2. TRAI conducts seminars on important topics of consumer interest in Telecom wherein experts on the topic provide insights to participants. In the current situation of COVID Pandemic, it was decided to conduct such programs through online platform where consumers can join online while sitting at their home or office. The webinar was held to discuss various aspects of Internet of Things (IoT).

3. The webinar was inaugurated by Dr. Rajat Moona, Director IIT Bhilai. In his inaugural address, he threw light on IoT around the world and in India. He mentioned that billions of connected devices and seamless machine to machine communication going to change the future technology landscape in India. Shri Vinod Gupta, Advisor, TRAI, Bhopal welcomed the participants and explained the details of the programme.

4. Shri Sanjeev Banzai, Advisor, TRAI, New Delhi was special Guest on the occasion. In his special address, he spoke on the importance of IoT devices and M2M connectivity through telecom network. Presentations were made by series of experts namely Ms. Reynu Vittolia (Digital Experience Pre-Sales Leader, Nokia Software), Dr Brajesh Lall, (Professor IIT Delhi, Department of Electrical Engineering), Shri Ram Narain (Ex. Sr. DDG Department of Telecom), and Shri S.K. Sharma, (Ex-Deputy Director General, Telecom Engineering Centre) on various facets of IoT. The experts have deliberated on technical overview of IOT, characteristics, requirements, IoT use in different industries, insights of Machine to Machine communication, sensors, services hosted on cloud. Experts informed participants on the Roadmap of IoT and related services in India, Government policies and regulations, security and privacy, potential threats in IoT environment.

5. The webinar was attended by a large number of participants, viz. faculty members, research scholars and students from many academic institutes, industry associations, representatives of various Telecom Service Providers namely BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, Jio, Bharti Infra, ATC, senior officers from Government departments, representatives of consumer advocacy groups and citizens. The programme invited large participation, particularly the young students, who have benefited from the engaging discussion/interactions in the event.
