SC: Power to Grant Minority Status is With Centre - 18.01.2016

SC has said , “The power to grant minority status to an institute entirely vests with Central Government, which may decide it based on relevant materials,”. The matter came over Government’s plans to oppose minority status of Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.
