Supreme Court: No Attempt to Enact Uniform Civil Code Despite Repeated Court Appeals - 16.09.2019

Supreme Court has indicated dismay over the failure of successive governments to enact a Uniform Civil Code despite repeated appeals from the Court. The Court while delivering a verdict in a divorce case of a Goan couple said that Goa where the Portuguese Civil Code of 1867 is applicable to all was a ‘shining example’ of a State that had enacted and implemented the Uniform Civil Code.
