Recovery of dues owed by MPs, MLAs and political bodies

In a PIL raising issue to dues owed by Members of Parliament, Legislative Assemblies and other political entities to public utility providers and hotels run by ITDC, the High Court opted to take an approach other pursuing the recovery of old dues, which only multiplied with the passage of time, and did 'not bear much fruit'. It issued orders to the providers of public utilities to allow arrears of up to three months to accrue, subsequent to which the utility would be discontinued. Further directions were provided to the Election Commission to reduce the incidence of defaulting on dues.
