Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill, 2015

The Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill, 2015, set to be introduced in the Parliament’s Winter Session, 2015, proposes much needed updates to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The Bill, 2015 broadens the scope of the government’s powers and introduces checks and balances in the manufacture, import, distribution and sale of drugs and cosmetics in India. Clinical trials are set to be overseen by the Ethics Committee, constituted under the Bill. The Committee will also have powers to audit clinical trials and make site visits to ensure safety and well being of participants. Greater regulation and oversight, stricter punishments and vigilance outline the proactive stance the Bill proposes for the government.
