TRAI releases Highlights of Telecom Data for September, 2015

MANU/TRAI/0083/2015

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released data for telecom subscribers for September, 2015. The figures showed a continuing of established trends in declining wired connections and sluggish growth in broadband internet (connections with minimum download speeds of 512 kbps) uptake, much of which came from mobile broadband devices, such as mobile phones and dongles. Moreover, increasing tele-density, particularly in urban areas is set to raise concerns about the quality of wireless telephony and internet for consumers and for telecom providers. Having outlined compensation for dropped calls, TRAI allayed fears that its policy would not be technically unworkable or result in enormous fines being paid out. TRAI’s estimates place the amount of compensation paid out by telecom operators to be less than Rs. 200 crores per quarter.
