Ministry of Women and Child Development links Portal 'SHe-Box' to central/ state ministries and districts for speedy disposal of cases

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) has linked SHe-Box, the online portal to report complaints of Sexual Harassment at Workplace, to all the Central Ministries, Departments and 653 districts across 33 States/Union Territories. The linkage would play a significant role in speedy disposal of complaints on SHe-Box as each case would go directly to the central/ state authority concerned having jurisdiction to take action in the matter. Cases on She-Box can be monitored by the complainants and Ministry. As per report published, till November 20, 2018, around 321 complaints have been registered with 'SHe-Box'. Further, Ministry also empanels 223 Institutes to conduct awareness programmes on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.

SHe-Box was launched by WCD Minister in the year 2017, offering the facility of making online complaints of sexual harassment at workplace to all women employees in the country including government and private employees. Elaborating on the portal, WCD Minister said, "SHe-Box portal is an effort to provide speedy remedy to women facing sexual harassment at workplace. This is a proactive step taken by the WCD Ministry in the wake of the worldwide campaign MeToo, where women have related their experience of facing sexual harassment and abuse at workplace."

Further, A Handbook and Training Module on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 is also published to provide information about the provisions of the Act. The private organizations are encouraged to customize the Training Module as per their extant service rules and disciplinary procedures prescribed therein. The Sexual Harassment Act mandates all the workplace which include any department, organisation, undertaking, establishment, enterprise, institution, office, branch or unit which is established, owned, controlled or wholly or substantially financed by funds provided directly or indirectly by the appropriate Government, local authority, corporation or a co-operative society with more than 10 workers to constitute an Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) to receive complaints of sexual harassment to ensure safety of women.
