Accession to the Council of Europe Convention on Transfer of Sentenced Persons

The Union Cabinet has approved formally requesting the Council of Europe for India’s accession to the ‘Council of Europe Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons’. At present, 64 countries are party to the Convention; it is hoped that Indian prisoners imprisoned in countries part of the Council of Europe may be repatriated, serving their remaining sentences in India.
