Over Rs.1 crore in compensation to American injured in road accident upheld

The Supreme dismissed an appeal against award of damages to an American citizen injured by a Rajasthan roadways bus in 1988. It noted that the already lower-than-claimed compensation awarded by the motor accident claims tribunal did not warrant a further reduction. On the issue of compensation partly awarded in dollars, the Court agreed with the High Court’s deletion of the same as it had not been pleaded in the complaint.
