Draft Environment Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2015

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is inviting comments on its new Bill amending the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010. The Bill not only introduces harsher penalties for substantial damage caused, it also makes liable those who are in ‘minor’ breach of green laws. It provides for further vesting of powers by the Central Government in officers and authorities to adjudicate violation of environmental laws. The Bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament in its Winter Session.
