SC: Real-Time Reporting of Court Room Proceedings in Social Media Not Cause for Apprehension - 07.05.2021

Supreme Court has held that real-time reporting of Court room proceedings in social media is not a cause of apprehension but a virtual extension of the concept of open Court. The Court has said that such real-time reporting is an extension of freedom of speech and expression that media possesses.

SC Clarifies Centre to Continue Supply 700MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen to Delhi - 07.05.2021

SC: States Have No Power to 'Identify' Socially & Educationally Backward Classes - 06.05.2021

Supreme Court has held that the 102nd Constitution Amendment has abrogated the power of states to identify "Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBCs). The Court has held that after the introduction of Articles 338B and 342A to the Constitution of India, 1949 that the final say in regard to inclusion or exclusion (or modification of lists) of SEBCs is firstly with the President, and thereafter, in case of modification or exclusion from the lists initially published, with the Parliament.

SC Dismisses ECI Plea to Restrain Media from Reporting Oral Remarks of Judges - 06.05.2021

Supreme Court has dismissed the plea made by the Election Commission of India to restrain media from reporting the oral remarks of judges. The Court has emphasized that media cannot be stopped from reporting the oral observations made by judges and discussions during a court hearing. It said that the media coverage of court hearings was part of freedom of press, had a bearing on citizens' right to information and also on the accountability of the judiciary.
