Supreme Court Issues Fresh Guidelines on S.498A IPC, Now Arrests Only After Panel's Advice - 28.07.2017

Supreme Court has issued new set of directions to prevent the misuse of Section 498A of Indian Penal Code. It observed that arrests u/s 498A could be carried out only on advice of civil society panels that must be set up in every district.

Bombay High Court Annuls Govt Resolutions Making Quota For SC/STs During Promotion - 28.07.2017

Bombay HC has struck down two state Government Resolutions as ultra vires to Article 16 (4A) of the Constitution of India. The said GRs dated May 25, 2004, grant reservation at promotion stage to government employees belonging to SCs, STs and De-Notified Tribes, Nomadic Tribes, SBCs and OBCs.

Madhya Pradesh High Court: 'Slap, Say Sorry & Forget' Practice by Contemnors Not Accepted - 28.07.2017

Madhya Pradesh High Court, while sentencing a person accused of contempt to six months’ imprisonment, has observed that “slap, say sorry and forget” practice by some contemnors cannot be accepted and cannot be allowed to go scot-free by a simple ‘paper apology’.
